The Google-led initiative designed to explore how generative AI can alleviate workload, enhance well-being, and free up valuable time for teachers, has yielded insightful results, prompting a commitment to wider implementation.
The AI Works pilot saw 75 teachers from schools across the trust explore the capabilities of AI in their daily routines. The findings, now available in a comprehensive report, paint a compelling picture of AI's positive impact.
On average, each participating teacher discovered an astounding 109 hours reclaimed annually – time that can now be redirected towards more impactful teaching and professional development. Beyond time savings, the pilot uncovered a significant shift in teacher perception and practice. An impressive 80% of participants reported being positively surprised by the capabilities of AI, with many stating that it had fundamentally transformed their way of working.
Furthermore, the utility and ease of integration of these AI tools are underscored by the fact that almost half of the participating teachers have already incorporated them into their daily workflows.
Chief Operating Officer for Lift Schools James Browning said: "At Lift Schools, we believe AI can help teachers focus on what matters most. That’s why we joined the AI Works pilot, a research project led by Google to explore how generative AI can reduce workload, improve well-being and free up time for teaching.
"The results were powerful - teachers saved the equivalent of 109 hours a year, more than 80% were positively surprised by what AI could do, and nearly half started using it daily. Not because they were told to, but because it helped."
These compelling results have paved the way for a broader strategic initiative across Lift Schools.
Mr Browning added: "Our next step is to take that learning further - giving every colleague permission, awareness, support and tools to use AI with confidence."
