This year, primary schools across the Lift Schools network came together to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, a day that marks the end of the Second World War in Europe and honours the courage and resilience of a generation.
In the lead-up to the occasion, as well as on the day itself, all schools within the trust dedicated time to learning about and celebrating this historic event.
With the exception of Year 6, due to the proximity of SATs, all year groups were encouraged to participate in these activities.
Key Stage 2 pupils primarily took part in written tasks, such as reflective writing and historical reports, to deepen their understanding of the significance of VE Day.
Meanwhile, Key Stage 1 pupils took part in drama-based activities, allowing them to explore the event through role-play and storytelling.
It is part of Lift Schools’ mission to ensure that every child, regardless of background, geography, or ability, receives the best possible education and is given opportunities to learn about important historical events.
By learning about VE Day, pupils not only develop historical awareness but also gain a deeper appreciation of the values of resilience, sacrifice, and unity—qualities that will support them in school and beyond.
We’ve put together a short video which highlights the creative and educational ways our schools marked this historic day. You can watch the video in full here.

Thanks to our schools for sharing all the exciting things they have been up to to commemorate such a significant day in our history.
